Steve was appointed CEO of the Institute of Risk Management in 2002.

After graduating in chemistry from Oxford University, Steve joined the insurer Sun Alliance as a risk engineer. Ten years later, Steve set up the company’s business systems function. Leading the merger with Royal Insurance for the multinational business followed, then promotion to Commercial IT Director where Steve pioneered a unique business-led approach.

Steve is a Fellow of the IRM, the Chartered Insurance Institute, the Royal Society of Arts and a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

His interests include the development of professionalism in risk management, learning from the past and the importance of people, communication and culture. Steve is a prolific writer and speaker on risk and change issues.

Steve’s other interests include mountains, sailing, and growing things.
