Alan L. Farkas is Co-chair of SmithAmundsen’s aerospace practice. An accomplished trial attorney, Alan concentrates his practice in aviation, real estate, complex torts, and commercial litigation. He began representing clients at trial early in his career, and has maintained a near unblemished record at trial, with a 98 percent success rate. Alan has been practicing law since 1993 and has handled a variety of complex cases, from aviation air disasters to defending individuals and municipalities in civil rights lawsuits. Alan is regarded as a tenacious trial lawyer who employs a creative and strategic approach to his cases while maintaining a gentlemanly demeanor. In addition to trial work, Alan has been retained to advise corporations, pilots, airports, and municipalities on regulatory and statutory compliance, formation and organization, and liability protection. 

Alan has been recognized for his skills and accomplishments in Illinois Super Lawyers®* list for 2009, 2010, and 2014, a peer review designation published by Thomson Reuters, the Leading Lawyers Network (2012), and the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA). The LCA is an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society in which membership is limited to 3,500 fellows, or one-half of one percent of American lawyers. In 2005, Alan was named one of Illinois’ Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and the Law Bulletin Publishing Company. Alan is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and ethics. 

Alan holds an elected office as Village Trustee in Deerfield, Illinois, and he is the Chairman of the Legal Advisory Council of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
