Professional Details

Tony is Head of the 30-strong Regulatory team at Pannone. He specialises in white collar crime and corporate defence. He has extensive experience and success dealing with all the major regulators. This includes cases investigated/prosecuted by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Office of Fair Trading (OFT) H.M Revenue and Customs, the Financial Services Authority, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Environment Agency, Trading Standards and the Health and Safety Executive.

Tony advises corporations at the most senior level giving bespoke advice to senior board members in relation to both investigations by regulators and internal investigations. Recent advisory work has included matters related to alleged ‘cartel’ behaviour and corruption. Much of Tony’s work has an international element. Particularly noted for strategic success at investigation stage he has been praised by both clients and peers for his technical expertise and tactical acumen.

He is nationally recognised as a Leader in the Field in both the defence of serious fraud allegations and health and safety prosecutions. The Chambers UK Guide states that Tony ‘is widely viewed as one of the pre-eminent fraud experts in the country’.

Best career moment: I really do have many highlights, including the successful ruling by the House of Lords which brought a £50 million SFO case to an abrupt halt vindicating my client, but the best was proving that a professional client of good character was innocent of trying to poison her mother. The client had been charged but we proved to the prosecution’s satisfaction that there was never any poison! The elderly lady had a reaction to prescribed medicine. This truly was ‘the crime that never was’. (For the record her mother had always maintained her daughter was innocent).
