Dr. Timmermans studied Slavic languages and law in Leiden. He specializes in international trade and investment law – including Public Private Partnerships – transport law, including maritime law, and, also, international commercial arbitration. He is on the list of arbitrators of the Court of International Commercial Arbitration attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (Moscow), the London Court of International Arbitration, the Ukrainian Court of International Commercial Arbitration, the Kazakhstan International Arbitration Court, the Maritime Arbitration Commission attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (Moscow), as well as the Arbitration Court of the Moscow Stock Exchange (MICEX). In December 2013, Timmermans was appointed member of the Business Advisory Board of the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s International PPP Centre of Excellence in Geneva.
