London’s Largest Luxury Apartment Enters the Market

A flat in the heart of Mayfair that has been converted from a classic Buick Limousine showcase room has been listed for sale at a cool £16 million.

The developers were clearly keen to capitalise on the extensive dimensions within, and this famous building has since been redeveloped as the Mellier Building; where prospective owners will be able to enjoy huge spaces with ceilings up to 11ft high and fantastic views via the 82ft, eight-window front.

The enormous apartment has been added to the market by Mayfair property specialist Wetherell, whose chief executive Peter Wetherell said: “This magnificent lateral residence has the tallest ceilings and largest room dimensions of any new Mayfair apartment currently on the market.” Properties of this magnitude becoming available on the market are naturally rare, and so interest from both the domestic and international business community is likely to be high for this one-of-a-kind apartment.

As mentioned, the Edwardian building had formerly served as the European headquarters of the classic vehicle manufacturer Buick from the 1920s to the 1950s, when guests including the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Kent visited the site by Royal appointment to pick out their preferred choice of travel. But after undergoing a luxurious renovation courtesy of Eric Parry Architects and a redesign overseen by the team at Studio Mackareth, the space now boasts a contemporary apartment that at 3,500 sq ft is the same dimensions as a small supermarket.

The successful buyer will, at their disposal, have Mayfair’s largest luxury space and a property of supreme opulence; with two living rooms, three en suite bathrooms, a family-sized kitchen, a balcony and even a library being the standout features.

The flat opens up into a mammoth 47ft by 25ft living space, and coming just off this is a sublime dividing wall to that kitchen, which can be kept open for dinner parties and entertaining guests yet subtly closed for more discreet cooking and dining.

The family room, which measures a rather spacious 24ft by 19ft, boasts a three-window frontage for maximum natural light and opens onto an ornamental balcony; which offers unrivalled views across the stunning Mayfair landscape.

The master bedroom, which offers plenty of size as well at 21ft by 17ft, offers both a walk-in dressing room and an en-suite bathroom, with two further bedrooms complimented by their own en suite facilities.

The interior decor offers neutrality but with a classic, sophisticated charm, and a spacious winter garden will enable the owner and their guests to bask in tranquil elegance.

The apartment is also subject to a complimentary concierge service and a private lift lobby, which ensures the ultimate in luxurious Central London living.
